Almost near that 1 year mark

I'm laying in bed right now on the laptop and i have like..3/4th of my hair retwisted/interlocked but as you can tell (because i'm in bed, I got lazy and decided to just wait until the morning to do the rest thats sitting at the top of my head. it's 5am by the way (5:03 to be exact) and im preparing to take a trip to Trinidad for a few months to help out my peeps over there. I do have some pics though of when I washed my hair. These pics are from the 19th of this month and let it air dry then tonight (or last night 20th into this morning - the 21st) i started to interlock it.

I most definately will have to do another comparison shot later on. and most definately will have to buy me a camera to record and make video blogs on youtube and such. I'm in desperate need of one because the video thing on my camera phone does NOT cut it lol. 45 seconds? who can record anything in 45 seconds? - Life is not a commercial!

Apparently my hairlength is much longer when wet (due to the water weighing it down, but when its dry, it tightens which means it shrinks back up. IDK if this is happens to others but my hair is weird like that.

Dec 2nd!

okay so its Dec 2nd. I took some pics on Nov 30 as it was my 11th month loc'd! This year has flown by!
The following images are of me doing my hair and of what it looks like two days after lol. I plan to do a comparison shot very soon (maybe right now) to show my progress. I still dont like how poofy my ends are. some locs are smaller or larger than the others but its all good. I cant complain cause they are doing their thing. Some locs I had to join, others I had to take down. This is a growing and learning experience and fellow loc'rs can understand that.

Thanksgiving and all that...

Everyone knows the story of Thanksgiving. For Black People it has nothing to do with pilgrims and the true americans. it has to do with the Moors, americans, and other 700 men women and children who were killed; killed in the name of Christianity. This was the day that these pilgrims, Europeons, celebrated Thanks to God for victory.

And yet, we call this day a Holiday. More like a Horror-day.

I am so glad I stopped celebrating Pagan Holidays when I went back to Al-Natural. America is the only country that drives on the right side of the road. Does that not say that this is the only backwards country there is?

Anyhow...two weeks ago i went to the optometrist and ordered me some contacts and a pair of glasses. The salesman totally got my ass when he picked out a pair of Dolce&Gabbana eyewear that i just so happened to like. I had to break bread on it and the sucker came up to 480-ish even with the 30% off from my insurance company. Contacts were free with the insurance so i cant complain.

my glasses are available to be picked up today (Nov 25) so when i awake i'll go get them. I'm pretty happy. That way I dont have to wear my contacts all the time. They're gray. I dont think they are medicated and I like them. PICS!

Well...I undid a loc as a test

I undid one loc because i saw a sister undo a WHOLE loc by combing it out and i wanted to try that. the loc i did in the front of my head wasn't completely locd so i undid it to see how much length it had. Here are the pics:

I was surprised at the amount of hair that came out in the comb but in the end it was okay because the length of the hair was still a considerable good length as you can see. Oh and btw, the dye faded out of my hair already and turned brown. I will have to go over it again sooner than later.

The two above are shots of the undone loc that i tighty coiled with just my fingers. my hair is so soft that if i just wet my fingertips and twist my hair, it'll coil like the pictures above. The images below are of my hairs length when wet. i had just washed my hair on the 16th so i took pics.

This pic is of a loc that i tried to join together because they were too thin. Then my dumb self tried to un-join them but couldnt because i was interlocking LOL. so i used the scissors and cut between the two joined locs and then tried to sew the one that broke off of the main loc, onto the bottom of it with thread and created one long, thin loc, lol. it was nice for a while but then i got tired of having one extremely long loc while the rest were shorter so i just took it off.

109 locs!

I did a loc count. well.. more like a "Clip Count because i segregated the clips that were left in my bowl from the ones that were in my hair after I had did them, and...well.... i just counted the clips. I now (lets make it official)

I NOW HAVE......

Drum Roll Please! *drumdrumdrumdrumsnaresnaresnaresnaredrumdrumdrum*

....109 LOCS!

*Applause and Cheers*

Thank You! Thank You!

This is a momentus occasion lol. (no not really) but it is nice to keep track incase some person later on down the road in life asks me how many locs I have. Maybe a kid or curious person. and I'd smile and say proudly "109!"

I'm happy. I'm 10 months in...im crochet locking. I cant call it latching because I dont have a latch hook, I have a CROCHET NEEDLE, lol, which does basically the same thing. You just have to use it right and try to get past the tiring moments when the darn thing would snag your roots and you fight to remove it lol.

My ends are still poofy. I think thats because of my lack of palm-rolling. I started my locs with BACK-COMBING which was waaaay faster for locking my hair. Two-strands would just come undone. after back-combing, my hair looked like locks and then a month later they went through that whole phase of hideous hair that made me want to take 'em down. I'm glad I didnt though because this is a learning experience and after going through the transition from the BC to natural, I probably would have ran back to the crack.

PICS!

Affects of Interlocking:

I dont particularly like the large amount of spaces interlocking gives. I'm thinking about freeforming or letting my roots grow out some because i hate all that space, but the interlocking keeps the lock in its "defined lines" and makes sure that it stays in those lil squares. but it also cleans up the spaces!

Dyed ends:

The Back:

THREAD! since my hair is tvery thin (all over) especially in the front, one of my baby locs broke so i had gotten some thread (the darkest color we had was red. it was either that or walk around with white or sea green thread in my loc. So i chose that red. Can you see it? I had to interlock the loc that i re-threaded with another nearby one to thicken it. That's why its twisted like that.

interlocked and sorta styled it then DYED IT

I was bored on saturday so i decided to do my hair. friday i was off from work so i interlocked them with a crochet hook whch came out nice and tight (almost had my head hurting) but it was okay. I decided to take pics.

What I did was section off my hair along the sides leaving half down (that I secured with a rubber band to seperate it) and left the top half of my hair out. I made a row down the middle of that and secured that with a rubberband so it looked like a strip of hair was between two halves of hair in the front. then i crossed the two halves on the side along the strip making an X basketweave pattern.

Another update!!

well...tonight (Sunday) i updated my hair! I added a bit of color to my ends! I bought Revlon's ColorSilk Auburn Brown. Left it on my ends for about an hour, wrapped in foil....

SO!.... I hopped myself in the shower and rinsed it out until the water was completely clear. And just to make sure, when i hopped out of the shower, i re-washed my hair again in the sink. some of the shampoo residue was still in my locks so i did a ACV rinse to get it out. I had to wash my hair vigorously! but in the end, i love the color. Im thinking about going back over the Back portion of my hair and dyeing it the whole loc the same color instead of just the ends, so that way only the top half of my hair would have the ends dyed and the back would all be dyed.

Then afterward i figured id retwist them. so i ran and got my clips and started retwisting them. As i write this, I still have the clips in my hair and its 3:54am monday morning (Nov. 11th). i decided to leave them in and put my satin cap on after i sprayed them down with tressame's shine spray. i use it as spritz but i dont even know if thats what its for. it keeps my hair nice and shiny so whatever lol.

THIS LOC COMES FROM THE DEAD CENTER OF MY HEAD:

ME TRYING TO LOOK SERIOUSLY CUTE LOL:

MY MOST AWKWARD SMILE:

You can see that they arent really... together. most people locs are already stable at the ends, but mine, however, have a mind of its own. some are loc'd and some aren't. Its crazy! but i just have to care for them myself and it'll be okay. Im starting to think I should palm roll much frequently because i have hairs all over the place on my locs lol. so Ima get on my grind about that.
